A Day back on the Island….

I went back to the island for a day (literally) to handle some family business. I flew in Saturday night, and left Monday morning. Here are some pics.

I think I have to explain the last post a bit… I got quite a few e-mails expressing condolences and such.
The poem was one I shared at a recent poetry reading held in the Downtown Atlanta-Fulton Public Library. I originally wrote it for Father’s Day, but felt that it was too personal at the time to share.
My father, the man I admire most in my life, passed away a little over four years ago. It was sudden, and he died while I was trying to administer CPR when he stopped breathing. Read the blog post here. This was right before I was leaving to go to school at the University of Miami, and I saw his passing as a sign that I had to leave my doubts and chains behind. He was already in a weakening state for many years, and I was debating delaying college to stay in Puerto Rico and take care of him.
But enough of the things that make me gloomy.
I can’t believe I waited till Thursday to blog about the past weekend. I went out with Mark on Saturday to watch Sympathy for Lady Vengeance at the Landmark Theatre. After a delicious Indian meal at the Midtown Promenade, catching up on everything since we last hung out a year ago, we watched the Korean movie about a woman who has been orchestrating revenge on a man who sent her to jail 13 years prior at the age of 19, taking the fall for the abduction and murder of a five-year old boy. There is a lot of violence in this film, which i love. I can’t handle horror movies, but give me a good movie with blood, knives, guns, and subtitles, and I am very, very happy.
Afterwards, we went to Amsterdam, the newest bar in the Atlanta queer scene. We played pool, and I especially loved how there was a mixed crowd of mostly gay men and groups of lesbians. Miss Lauren moved her famous blackjack table over to Amsterdam, so faux-gambling (not for real money) was always a nice diversion.
As Mark and I were lamenting to each other about our own self-deprecation, who did I managed to spot but one of Atlanta’s blogger celebrities, Omar from The Other O Show! He took a picture of us:
So that was definitely a highlight of the night. i felt like such the giggling schoolgirl (can’t you tell?). Luckily, I had recovered from the one rum & coke that got me feeling sloshed.
I made breakfast on Sunday for thr troops. My roommate and his boyfriend, and the other roommate’s boyfriend. Pancakes with pecans and/or dark chocolate. Afterwards, I had a meeting at outwrite with Collin about Atlanta Rainbow Muse for the Fall issue.
And now the week…. I’m just tired, what can I say?
I’ll Show you How to Make your Robosapien into a Flamosapien!

Engadget, the tech blog I read for their cool gadgets, has a post about How to Make your Robosapien into a Flamosapien. It involves a cheap barbecue light, some electronic equipment, and a inner geek that revels in throwing flames.
Being that I too love to throw flames (albeit of the more non-physically-burning variety), I decided that I too can create a Flamosapien!
Watch as I turn this average Robosapien:
Into a True Flamosapien:
Just add some sass, a fuschia makeover that no queen will dare question, and a hand grenade, and you got yourself a robot to be feared at the next Robot Wars!

Scary picture of the day.

*Ooops on the really big error and gibberrish. The cronjob I had going (doesn’t that sound dirty?) for posting my e-mails got stuck in a loop, and turned my image into ASCII text. Couple that with some security settings going wrong on the server, and you get a day of WTF!!?? Thanks Howard for alerting me.
