Just Some More Faggotry

Friday, June 16th, 2006 | faggy tendencies

Let me tell you about Screen on The Green. It’s as if everybody,
including their wife, beard, mistress, and lovechild decided “Hey,
wouldn’t it be great if we could go down to the Park and have a picnic
and watch a movie? What better way to exercise a right in middle-class
living, and join the masses in watching a movie at sundown?” I think
that someone out there can argue the screenings as some sort of “opiate
for the masses”.

But I have to admit, the Park has done a good job of keeping this event.
It has only exploded from the start, and campiness ensues when movies
like “Mommie Dearest” get shown. Trust the gays to dress/accessorize for
the part. And the chalked aisles! Ingenious!

This year’s selections started out with the Beatles movie. No, not
Yellow Submarine. The other Beatles movie. You know, the one with no
apparent plot, and with the 4 looking for Paul’s grandfather at multiple
times. I almost fell asleep with Alex during the movie. No offense to
true Beatles fans.

But the short stories are better.

I went to the Park at the invitation of other fags to watch Ferris
Bueller’s Day Off
. Of course you can expect every child/high
schooler of the 80s to be there, in a high-school ode to the
capabilities of charm. Too bad drugs, rock & roll, and grunge in the 90s
killed it, and rendered it a relic of a brighter time, as exemplified by
the color schemes in Miami Vice.

I had ordered and brought sushi from Nickiemoto’s to the Park, but after
doing all of the pleasantries of hellos and smooches before the movie, I
had a sudden feeling of claustrophobia, and left the Park quickly. I
ended up in Blake’s nursing a martini alone as I waited for the other
fags to finish the movie.
