Retail makes me a bitch.
Wednesday, March 16th, 2005 | I'm a bitch and I know it.
One thing I’ve come to learn about myself recently is that I am developing a growing intolerance for people who ignore rules of grammar and language and fall back on slang or some sort of verbal structure they must have developed on their own. Some people call it slang, or vernacular, but I call it plain ignorance, especially if it is a language that is taught in schools. How can you find pride in something that is just a corruption?
One of the biggest failures of national school systems is the inability to teach children the proper way of speaking. Enunciation, vocabulary, and grammar are all skills people take for granted. I have watched as the quality of papers and language skills of college students deteriorate, and could only shake my head as I read someone else’s atrocity. Maybe it is the former newspaper editor in me, but I do find myself nitpicking certain written works. In conversations, when someone mumbles to me in some sort of mish-mash of words, I fight the urge to slap that person behind the head for making a mistake. Instead, I politely ask them to repeat their words.
This is why I cannot seem to be patient with certain people. In a way, I correlate good verbal skills with politeness, and the use of slang and vernacular just give away a impolite and rude character. People who speak other languages who think that their same rules apply to foreign languages should also get a culture check, as their ignorance only leads to their own further alienation.
I know, I am a bitch.

Yeah, but you’re a hot bitch.
Oh this really bothers me too. I don’t understand why this is the case but it gets worse and worse. I have a friend who graduated from college with an degree in english who cannot even write a paper properly. I had to tell him that KIDS is not appropriate in paper for school, that he should have used the word CHILDREN.
I mean how did he graduate?
