J.K. Rowling just released the title of the sixth Harry Potter Book. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. She also says that neither Harry nor Voldemort is the Prince in question. So who is the Prince? What other half-bloods do we know of? Hagrid (half-giant), and I quite can’t recall who else.

Rowling does reveal that a lot of the ideas for this book stemmed from the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, but has decided to leave many of the details and secrets for this new book. The Harry Potter series has gven quite a lot of consideration to blood, the purity and source of family blood quite prevalent in the prose. Quite similar to the notion of blue-bloods (royalty) and the common folk in Britain, eh? The basic lesson we learn from reading Harry Potter is that blood doesn’t matter when it comes to magic, potential, or the individual. (Maybe Rowling is secretly in cahoots with the British Royal Family to help them in a campaign to lessen the gap between the Royals and the people.)

Who is the Half-Blood Prince? Neville Longbottom has turned up in the last book as potential to be quite formidable in his own right. Hagrid is a known half-blood. Ronald Weasley is a pure-blood. And Hermione Granger is pureblood Muggle with magic potential (Besides, it says Prince). Draco is a pureblood (and proud of it!). Maybe a new character will show up. We can only wait and see, as it is still a book in progress, and Rowling has not disclosed a release date.
