I think everyone remotely interested in American politics and/or glbt rights has heard about the ruckus that has been happening this weekend in San Francisco. I first heard about it on Thursday afternoon, when the news of marriage of Phyllis Lyon, 83, and Del Martin, 79, partners for 51 years, got out and the conservatives of America were caught unawares. For the first time in America, a marriage sanctioned by the government has been performed for two loving individuals who just happen to be both women.
Celebrate this expression of love. What started out as an act of defiance by gay activists on Thursday has led to a coming together of people, both politically and non-politically active, this weekend to celebrate and experience what they have never been sanctioned to do before.
Eyewitness account with photos.
I hear about these events happening, and I can’t help but wonder what the conservative right will do. Actions always lead to a response. Conservatives tried to file an injunction against the marriages on Thursday, but the courts rejected them until Tuesday. This is enough to make the Reverend Billy Graham shit in his pants! I can imagine all of the churches across America holding prayer meetings, calling their congregations and flocks together for a group effort to stop the trampling upon their morals. bush is on the verge of supporting the Constitutional Amendment to ban Same Sex Marriage. And events such as these will force him to take a firmer stand on the issue. I’m waiting for the respone from the right. And I don’t think that is going to be pretty.
Events such as these will make the rest of America think about their stand on the issue. Which side wil you support?
